Salkeld is in the Eden Valley between the Lake District and the northern Pennines and makes a good base to tour the area. It is a pretty village, having won the Best Kept Village Competition several times. Good walks nearby. Fishing permits obtained from local inn. Open air heated swimming pool 1½ miles. Shop 2 miles, pub 100 yards.
