In the New Forest National Park and ¼ mile from the sea, this attractively converted wing of a large 1780 Grade II listed Georgian country house stands in its own formal gardens. A 5-minute walk through a wild flower meadow (Dexter cows in winter) leads to a 17th-century smugglers’ inn serving good food. Beyond the inn lies Keyhaven Estuary with its sailing clubs and public launching quay. Milford-on-Sea is 1 mile, for shops (including fishmonger) and beach. Walking or off road cycling in the New Forest, along the sea wall or the traffic-free Ancient Highway to the old Georgian town of Lymington (Saturday morning street market). Local bike hire, horse riding and golf. Sea fishing, ferries to the Isle of Wight and bird watching in Keyhaven Nature Reserve. Hurst Castle, Beaulieu National Motor Museum, Portsmouth and Bournemouth are easily accessible. Shops 1 mile.
