Surrounded by pretty gardens with a small stream running through, it makes a perfect base for exploring the western Lake District fells, country and coastal walks, and cycle paths. Just 4 miles from Muncaster Castle, gardens and owl sanctuary, and the Ravenglass to Eskdale Miniature Steam Railway, whilst Wast Water (voted Britain’s favourite view 2007) is a few miles further. The 18th century Georgian port of Whitehaven to the north has a conservation harbour and marina, the Beacon Heritage Centre plus shops and restaurants, or if relaxation is a preferred option, simply unwind on the sunny patio with a good book.
