The quaint town with its cobbled streets, pubs and tea rooms is known as the ‘Festival Town’ it is the start of the Cumbrian Way, with a museum and statue of Laurel and Hardy.

Nearby is the South Lakes Wild Animal Park at Dalton, the Aquarium of the Lakes and steam railway at Lakeside.
