In a tranquil village setting and only 2 miles from the sandy beach at Paignton, Rose Cottage is one of three attractive single-storey cottages that have been imaginatively converted from a former barn, retaining their splendid original roof beams and stone walls. Mill Cottage (HME) and Jasmine Cottage (HQH) are at the same location. Set, adjacent to the owner’s home, around the same pretty courtyard garden with pond and fountain, they are attractively furnished in ‘New England’ style and offer spacious holiday accommodation, each with its own patio area.
This region, known as the South Hams, boasts the mildest climate in Britain and offers many opportunities for a relaxing holiday. Two popular seaside resorts are close by – Paignton (2 miles), with its small harbour, zoo and steam railway and Torquay (4 miles) with sailing, tennis and a sports centre. Torquay is a combination of the exotic and the classically English, with coloured lights festooning the harbour and marina by night, as well as several good sandy beaches, giving the town an almost Mediterranean feel.
Inland is the medieval town of Totnes with its castle and 16th-century buildings, where every Tuesday during the summer an Elizabethan market is held. From the quayside, boat trips take visitors down the beautiful estuary of the River Dart to Dartmouth, and from just across the river, the Dart River Valley Railway runs steam trains along its seven-mile track to Buckfastleigh, whose nearby abbey has been destroyed and rebuilt over the last thousand years – an exhibition covers the abbey’s history and displays its treasures. Also within easy reach is the spectacular Dartmoor National Park, whose wildlife includes wild ponies, buzzards and kestrels. Shop/P.O. 500 yards, pub serving food 400 yards.
Adjoins Mill Cottage. Entrance to open-plan living/dining room with modern fitted kitchen area and French doors to patio. Spacious double bedroom with four-poster bed, French doors to patio and en-suite bathroom with shower attachment and toilet. Twin bedroom. Shower room and toilet. Exposed beams throughout. error= query time reach limit
