Appletreewick
The picturesque village of Appletreewick lies in the heart of Wharfedale, in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales.
It is surrounded by some of the finest landscapes in the Dales and is steeped with history. The area offers may local heritage sites to visit or simply walk among the rich wildlife that stretches down towards the river Wharfe. The village boasts two great pubs and plenty of good quality accommodation.
Although a relatively small vilage, Appletreewick is hiugely popular with visitors in the summer months, with it's enviable location on the river Wharfe and good accessability into the dales. The two pubs in the Village, the Craven Arma and The New Inn both provide good quality food and a selection of real ales, although booking is recommended if not essential especially during summer weekends and bank holidays.
The village boats 3 camp sites within the imediate area, with Masons's Farm seemingly the most popular with a central village locatin stretching to the banks of the river. The site can become very busy at peak times although the owners do restrict tent and caravan numbers so get there early, or call ahead to book. Howarth Farm Caravan Site is located up a valley in the hamlet of Skyreholme is a favourite of ours, being more peaceful than the other two sites in the village, although facilities are a little more limites there is everything you might need. We have not yet stayed at Howgill Lodge but having past by on walks to Simon's Seat a number of times, it is a nicely laid out site with individual pitches, we will certainly be making a visit in 2010.
Appletreewick is overlooked by the rocky outcrop of Simon's Seat,a prominent summit on the western edge of Barden Fell. Many of the great walks in this area pass by the imposing rocks.
