Well, it feels like the Great British Summer is coming to a close (what summer? i hear you say), but there is plenty to look forward to as Autumn rolls in in the Yorkshire Dales.

Here is our pick of the top ten events happening to keep you active and entertained through Autumn.

1. Flock To Skipton! – 14th August-14th November

This is a large-scale public art event – but with a difference. Over 25 larger-than-life sheep sculptures, all colourfully painted with unique designs, will be placed around the streets and landmarks of Skipton, providing a ‘trail’ for visitors to follow. Visit http://flocktoskipton.co.uk/

2. Ingleton Folk Weekend. 1st-3rd October 2010

A weekend of live music, workshops, session, street entertainment, concerts and much more! Held at various venues in and around the village it’s free entry to everything except for the Friday evening Ceilidh and the Saturday evening concert.

3. Richmond Walking & Book Festival.  24th September – 3rd October 2010

Boots and books take over North Yorkshire this autumn. Bookworms and walkaholics join forces for the annual Richmond Walking & Book Festival, where guided walks take place and famous guests from the literary world come to visit.

4. Drystone Walling Demonstration. – 26th October 2010

How could this not make our top ten! See this traditional demonstration at the Dales Countryside Museum. Details from www.yorkshiredales.org.uk

5. Haunted Halloween – Tales of Fear at Richmond Castle

It is the eve of All Saints – Hallowe’en – and you think you are brave, fearless and daring. Well think again! Join in this series of tales and stories with our costumed storytellers from North Country Theatre. Wear warm clothes (perhaps a waterproof!), sensible footwear. 6. Halloween! at Bolton Castle

Dare you enter the haunted Castle? Try our Halloween Trail and snuggle up by the fire to listen to spooky stories from Bolton’s fascinating past!

7. Knaresborough Farmers Market at Knaresborough Market Place. 21st November 2010

FARMA accredited market. This is a farmer’s market selling fresh and organic produce, direct from the producer and sourced as locally as possible.

8. Ilkley Literature Festival.  1st – 17th October 2010

Set in the heart of the county of Yorkshire, which has inspired writers from the Brontës onwards, this festival in Ilkley focuses on talks from some of the nation’s finest writers. Expect readings, discussions, writing workshops, children’s events and performance.
