Want to know which camping essentials you absolutely don’t want to forget before you head off for your campsite? Camping can be great fun, however if you leave home without the right camping equipment it may cause things to be uncomfortable or get real expensive.

It’s pretty much a given that you’ll need a proper tent, sleeping bag, and warm clothing for chilly camping temperatures. One thing many people don’t realize is that most tents are not water proof. Instead many tents are only water resistant and can quickly get saturated with water and leak under a heavy rain. To avoid this problem you can treat your tents seams with a waterproofing solution to avoid water leaking in to your tent.

Another thing to consider is the temperature rating of your sleeping bags. Often sleeping bags are rated to the minimum temperature they are designed to insulate against. Sadly, this minimum temperature rating is often very uncomfortable to sleep in. so always make sure you have a sleeping bag that is rated for a much lower temperature than the temperature of the area you expect to visit. For instance, if you are going to Yosemite National Park, and the weatherman says temperatures should reach a low of 40 degrees, you’ll want to make sure your sleeping bag is rated below 40 degrees for a comfortable nights sleep.

A few more often overlooked camping essentials are a flashlight with fresh batteries, first aid kit, duct tape, toothbrushes, matches, toilet paper, lip balm, and aspirins. Of course everyone’s taste differs, but I can’t imagine leaving for camping without my marshmallows and smores. One of the best camping tips is to research the area you will be visiting so you can get an idea of what to expect, their current temperatures, and if you need reservations.
