Schoolchildren millionth tree planted yesterday in a program to create new forests through the valleys.
They joined former actor Bill Simon Rouse, who planted oaks five years as an ambassador for the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust.
The celebration in East Halton were 50 primary school students of the Church of Christ in Skipton, each planted seedling.
The trust sells about 2,000 trees per year for members of the public to mill around in the valleys at a cost of £ 15 and also receives funding for its work. The planting of trees during the winter and have an open house this summer to allow people to see how they get along.
Deputy Director David Tyler, said: “This is the creation of new forests for the benefit of individuals Yorkshire.
“It ‘s become quite a popular method because it is something different and people think it’s nice to give as a birthday gift to someone else or in a good way to remember someone who died.”
Uses and restoration of grasslands and to find alternatives for the area of leaves, the group also has a landscape project trainee.
Mr Tayler said: “Our job is to help people in the region and is also a great chance to get some fresh air of the season.”
