British Waterways state that reservoir levels are now at a sufficient level to for boat traffic to get moving again.

The closed section of the Leeds-Liverpool Canal is to reopen starting from tommorrow.

The 40-mile stretch between Barrowford and Wigan will open on Friday while the 20-mile section between Barrowford and Gargrave will allow access once again from next Wednesday.

Restrictions on passages will remain on all lock flights from 9am to 4pm.

The closure came into force on August 2 following some of the most severe drought conditions for the last century.
